SKIMMER OR OVERFLOW POOL: HOW TO CHOOSE A WATER CIRCULATION SYSTEM
According to the type of water circulation system, inground pools are divided into two categories: skimmer and overflow. Let's take a look at the features and differences of these pools together so that you can choose the ideal pool that suits your needs.
Skimmer pools are one of the most popular types of pool, especially for family homes and gardens. It is a closed water circulation system, where the water is drained into a sand filter through a surface collector - skimmer. Then, after cleaning, heating and disinfection, the water is returned to the pool through the recirculation nozzles. The number of skimmers and their location is determined by the size and shape of the pool bath. The pool water level is maintained by an automatic drainage system.
This is a very efficient and simpler filtration process than overflow pools. The water level of a skimmer pool is approximately 10-12 cm from the top edge.
Advantages:
needs less space
shorter installation time
easier maintenance
quieter operation
lower purchase price
Disadvantages:
for private use only
less water circulation in the pool
aesthetics (water level lower than the edge of the pool)
the appearance of a water line on the pool wall
Although skimmer filtration cannot achieve the same level of water purity as overflow, this method of water filtration is absolutely sufficient for private use.

OVERFLOW POOL
An overflow pool brings a unique look and a more luxurious design with a natural integration into the space. Unlike a skimmer pool, the water here reaches to the top edge and is flush with the surrounding terrain.
In the overflow pool, the surface water drains into an overflow trough with a cover grid around the perimeter of the pool, then flows into a storage tank and is then sucked into a sand filter by a circulation pump. The completely cleaned water is returned to the pool through the nozzles and the cycle is repeated continuously.
This system is more complex than the skimmer system, but more efficient. Circulation of the water over the pool edges ensures that impurities are evenly captured from the surface and that the water is perfectly clean, even with regular and heavy use. For private pools, overflows are used less frequently, mainly due to the higher purchase price.

Advantages:
Commercial and private use
better circulation and more efficient water purification
perfect aesthetic impression ("stretched" water surface)
the absence of a water line on the pool wall
more efficient collection of floating debris
Disadvantages:
higher purchase price
higher space requirements (space for overflow trough and buffer tank)
more demanding maintenance in the exterior (dirt under the grid)
noise level
more demanding technology
While building an overflow pool is an expensive pleasure, it is the only right choice for a public pool or a prestigious private project.
